"Stolen dreams" - Name work in progress.
Production outline: A 3 minute wonder about people's missed opportunities in life Whether due to their own accord or due to natural causes. I will be interviewing people from several different generations and whether they wish they had of taken different opportunities. Leading them to finally telling me where they think where they'd be in life now. I will be using a set of semi-structured questions so that I can cut between responses causing the video to have a more sleek feel to it and so that it runs in a smoother fashion.
Which genre is my idea based on?: This would be an observational documentary, as the person interviewing the people's voice will never be heard, they will also never enter shot, leaving an authentic feel to what the people are saying, the interviewer will never be heard and the questions will either be non-existent or shown on screen via text.
This will be in the form of 'reality' due to the fact that people will be reflecting on their real life experiences and giving the viewer an insight into their lives and their past experiences. I feel that the reality genre was the best option for me, due to it presenting itself as a more serious piece of media for the viewer, which will hopefully help them to have a better connection with the 'wonder' leading them to enjoying it more than any other genre choice I could of made.
Target audience: The target audience for my short would be that of younger people, I will hope that it sends out the message to the viewer to 'chase their dreams' and if you want something go and get it, because if you don't and you let it go, then you may end up regretting it at a future date.
The aim of the documentary: The aim of my documentary would be to inspire, to show people that you need to work hard to achieve your dreams and take opportunities that are handed to you. As if you don't then you will inevitably look back at them one day and regret what you avoided doing. I hope that it would achieve some sort of emotional response from the viewer that in turn will make them want to push themselves to the next level of what they are aiming to achieve in life.
Filming locations: At this moment in time I have 2 locations sorted. The first location being my house in Gorleston-On-Sea, this is due to practicality as I will be one of the people featuring in the documentary so a large chunk will be able to be shot instantly. I will also be looking to record in North-Walsham, as that is where one of the interviews I have lined up is, so I will be able to get 2 large bits of my 3 Minute Wonder shot in 2 locations.
Who will feature in the documentary?: The documentary will feature several different participants in the documentary. As of this moment I have 2 interviews lined up. One being with myself as I also had a dream in which I failed to follow through with. And one with my Grandad who will be going into further detail on my dream as he witnessed it first hand and also if he regrets any dreams he didn't take. No other crew will be needed other than myself, I will be using the camera and featuring aswell, this won't need any other people to help assist me in the making or editing of the wonder.
Some sample questions for interviews:
1. What did you want to achieve with your life, in terms of where you aimed to be in life when you were younger.
2. Why did you take the path you did?
3. Are you happy with how things turned out or do you regret the choices you made?
4. Picture this, a chance to go back and pursue your dreams, do you take it?
What equipment is needed for the 'wonder'?: The short documentary will need: A DSLR Camera (provided by myself) a Zoom Microphone (provided by the college). The only props that will be needed will be memorabilia provided by the participants so that they can show what they had when they were younger towards their 'dream'.
Budget: The budget for this production will be £5, this will be used to cover most of travel expenses, as there will be nothing else purchased in the means of props and costumes, for the documentary. However, the travel costs are £5.90 so that means that I will have to provide some of the budget by myself, meaning that the total budget will be just under £6.00
